Alcohol dehydrogenase (E. coli

High purity recombinant Alcohol dehydrogenase (Escherichia coli) for use in research, biochemical enzyme assays and in vitro diagnostic analysis.

EC 1.1.1.1
CAS: 9031-72-5

alcohol dehydrogenase; alcohol:NAD+ oxidoreductase

Recombinant. From Escherichia coli
In 3.2 M ammonium sulphate.
Supplied at ~ 320 U/mL.

Specific activity:
~ 7 U/mg (25oC, pH 8.5 on ethanol).

Stability: > 4 years at 4oC.

Low Km for ethanol: due to the low Km of this enzyme, only 3 units are required per assay (TV = 2.54 mL) compared to 177 units of the yeast enzyme.

DESCRIPTION

Alcohol Dehydrogenase (Escherichia coli)

EC 1.1.1.1
CAS: 9031-72-5

Synonyms:
alcohol dehydrogenase; alcohol:NAD+ oxidoreductase

Form:
In 3.2 M ammonium sulphate.

Stability:
> 4 years at 4oC.

Specific activity:
~ 7 U/mg (25oC, pH 8.5 on ethanol).

Unit definition:
One Unit of alcohol dehydrogenase activity is defined as the amount of enzyme required to oxidise one µmole of ethanol per minute, in the presence of NAD+, in potassium pyrophosphate buffer (86 mM), pH 8.5 at 25oC.

Specificity:
Catalyses the reaction:
Primary alcohol + NAD+ = an aldehyde + NADH + H+

This enzyme works on primary or secondary alcohols or hemi-acetals with very broad specificity; however the enzyme oxidizes methanol much more poorly than ethanol.

Applications:
Applications for the measurement of ethanol in the food, wine and beverage and pharmaceutical industries.
