Unit definition:
One Unit of α-L-arabinfuranosidase activity is defined as the amount of enzyme required to release one μmole of p-nitrophenol (pNP) per minute from p-nitrophenyl-α-L-arabinofuranoside (2.5 mM) in sodium acetate buffer (100 mM), pH 5.5.

Specificity:
Most active on p-nitrophenyl-α-L-arabinofuranoside. Highly active against α-1,5-linked arabinobiose, arabinotriose and α-1,3-linked arabinofuranose sidechains of wheat arabinoxylan and 3-O-arabinofuranosyl-xylobiose. No activity against linear non-substituted arabinan. Very low activity against sugar beet arabinan.
