Unit definition:.
One Unit of hyaluronate lyase activity is defined as the amount of enzyme required to release one μmole of 4,5-unsaturated product per minute from hyaluronic acid (0.58 mM) in the presence of calcium chloride (0.1mM) in sodium succinate buffer (20 mM) pH 4.2 at 25oC.

Specificity:
Cleaves hyaluronate chains at a β-D-GalNAc-(1,4)-β-D-GlcA bond, ultimately breaking the polysaccharide down to 3-(4-deoxy-β-D-gluc-4-enuronosyl)-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine.
